How to Cleanse and Charge Your Crystals

Crystals

Crystals and gemstones can be used for a multitude of tasks, from performing magical rites through to any number of healing practices. It is important to remember that crystals are effective through their vibrational energy, and this energy like the energy of our own chakras can become polluted and stagnant over time and with repeated use. When cleansing your crystals it is important to note that not all of them take well to being immersed in water, as Selenite for example is water soluble. A few crystals are self cleaning, such as Citrine, Azeztulite and Kyanite. Clear Quartz and Carnelian can be employed to cleanse delicate crystals but will themselves need cleansing afterwards.

The most common way to cleanse your crystals is to hold them in running water. While for many this constitutes the kitchen water tap, for those with access it can also include immersing them in the sea, a river or a stream. While you hold the crystals in the water make your intention known that all negative energy that has been absorbed by the crystals will be removed by the action of the water, and thus the crystal we be re-energised for use. Crystals can also be charged by placing them in sunlight or the light of the moon for several hours, though care should be taken to ensure that crystals charged in this way are not subject to fading by direct sunlight, or in placed in such a position that the rays of the sun combined with the magnifying powers of the crystals constitute a fire hazard.

Crystal clusters and other delicate crystals can cleansed by leaving them covered in either sea salt, or rock salt overnight. Care should be taken to ensure that all trace of the salt is then brushed away in the morning as over time the salt residue could damage the crystals. One way to keep all of your tumbled crystals clean is to keep a Carnelian in the bag with them, this means that you will only have to clean the carnelian at intervals and not the majority of the tumbled stones. Small crystals can be placed upon a clear quartz crystal or cluster over night for the purposes of cleansing, though the clear quartz should then be cleansed as a result.

Smudging can also be used as a method of cleansing crystals with the crystals being placed in the smoke of the smudge. Candles can also be employed, with the crystals either being passed through the flame or simply passed through the light emitted by the candle. Visualisation can also be used for cleansing purposes as well as for the charging of the crystals with the use of white light. There are a number of commercial cleansing products which are available online which state that they can be used with even the most delicate of stones, though why go to the expense when there are so many more cost free methods available?
